A rabbit is considered to be a baby until they turn 9 months old. It is suggested to be with its mother until it turns 6-8 weeks old. Bunnies need milk till three weeks after they are born. They need to get fed at least once or twice every day.

Bunnies start to open their eyes at around one week to 10 days. During this whole time, they need to be with their mothers and should be fed only the mother rabbits’ milk. Because rabbit’s milk is different than any other animal’s milk. This is one of the many reasons why bunnies should be with their mothers during this time of their childhood.

Mother Rabbits’ Duty Towards the Baby Bunnies

A bunny should stay with its mother for 6 to 8 weeks. Bunnies get their mothers’ milk till they turn 8 weeks old. If they stop getting the milk before they reach the 8th week, the bunnies will not get the gut-healthy flora and antioxidants that are generated from their mothers’ milk. Rabbits will not stay with their mothers forever. Once the bunnies grow up, they will go look for food on their own. Bunnies leave their nests when they turn two weeks old.

Mother rabbits leave their babies’ sides to roam around during the daytime. Their milk is rich and amazingly nutritious. Which physically supports the bunnies to stay without their mother while they roam outside. They feed the bunnies milk until they turn three weeks old. After the bunnies are three weeks old, mother rabbits start feeding the bunnies solid food gradually. Bunnies start taking small bites of their mothers’ food or hay. Bunnies, at this stage, still need their mothers’ milk.

When the mothers are back in the nests, they do not lie down. They stand over the bunnies to nurse them. Bunnies stay at the bottom of their nests or burrows sleeping. When it is time to get fed, mother rabbits wake them up for the meal. Mother rabbits lick and clean the babies’ bellies and bottom to increase the elimination.
