In this post, we are going to show you two types of methods that you can use to preserve rabbit feet. So, let’s get started!

Method 1: Rubbing Alcohol Method

The first method is the rubbing alcohol method. You can use rubbing alcohol to preserve rabbit feet. Check how you can do it step-by-step.

Method of Preserving Rabbit Feet

Step 1: Clean The Foot

First, clean the foot nicely. To do that, rinse it with water thoroughly just to remove all the dirt, blood, and little parasites if there is any. Take a bucket and pour some warm water into it. Add some antibacterial soap and mix it well. Put the foot into the bucket and wash it well.

After that, rinse it with clean water. Make sure you wash out all the soap from it. Squeeze out the excess water from the foot then let it dry for some time.

Step 2: Submerge The Foot into Rubbing Alcohol

Once you clean the foot, now you need to take some rubbing alcohol to submerge the foot into it. You need to use 70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol that you can get from any supermarket, hardware store, or online. Submerge the foot for 48 hours. Note the time when you are submerging it.

Now, take a jar and place the foot into it. Pour some rubbing alcohol. You have to be sure that the foot is fully submerged in the alcohol. Once it’s done, close the lid and tighten it properly. Using a jar is optional. You can also use a zip-lock bag or an air-tight container instead.

The fact is it should be secured and there must be no leaks.

Step 3: Rinse off The Foot

After 48 hours, rinse off the foot and remove the rubbing alcohol. Rinse the foot thoroughly with plain water to clean everything out. Make sure you clean everything off the alcohol. Now, squeeze it well to get all the water and alcohol out from the foot.

Step 4: Keep The Alcohol for Next Time

You don’t need to throw away the alcohol. You can save it for next time if you find another rabbit’s foot and want to cure and preserve it. So, keep the alcohol in any jar to use later. Label it so that you can know what it is when using it later on. Then it becomes safe to use.

Method 2: Sodium Tetraborate Solution Method

Another method is what you can call the sodium tetraborate solution method. Sodium tetraborate or simply borax is what you can use to preserve the rabbit’s foot. See the clear process to know more.

Step 1: Make The Sodium Tetraborate Mixture

Rinse off the rabbit’s foot. Then you need to submerge it into a borax mixture. It is called sodium tetraborate. You can get it in any local supermarket. To make the mixture, take a jar, zip-lock bag, or any other air-tight container and mix 1 part of sodium tetraborate and 15 parts of warm water.

Stir the mixture well so that it can dissolve properly. After that, carefully place the foot into the mixture. Let it be there for about 24 hours so that the chemical can get the time to work to dehydrate the foot.

Step 2: Rinse Off

After 24 hours, take the foot out of the mixture and rinse it off with plain water. Then again wash the foot by using warm water to remove the solution completely. Squeeze the excess water. Use a paper towel to do it properly. Let it dry outside or in the sun.

Step 3: Cap The Foot

Once the foot is completely dry and clean, it can recover its fluffiness. At this point, you need to cap the foot. You can make a keychain by using it. To do that, you can use a piece of leather to cap the foot. Use glue to attach the foot to cap it. Once you are done, leave it to dry. Attach a hook or any kind of loop through the cap to make it a nice keychain.
